Smile Direct Club: Week 1!
This day couldn’t come fast enough, y’all! My aligners arrived on October 8th! I popped them in right away & I wish I had prepared a little better for it!
Day 1: OUCH. Ok, I remembered being 13 and having braces and I remembered my teeth were sore. Ok…this felt like a version of the flu- but only on my teeth! My gums itched like crazy and my teeth ached right away! My best guess is that they hurt because they continued to shift while I waited on my aligners to arrive. But still…OUCH.
*Note: Smile Direct Club fully prepared me for the discomfort! I was still surprised! Haha!
Days 2-3: I could hardly talk. That sounds dramatic. But it’s true. I wasn’t opening my mouth & I barely moved my lips when speaking. The pain was…a lot. I told my husband that my aligners felt like tiny knives on my tongue. My tongue never bled, and the aligners never cut my tongue for real, but boy did it feel like it.
*Smile Direct Club gives you a nail file to soften the edges of your aligners- which can also make them fit better. I did that… and it didn’t help one bit.
The evening of day 3, I reached out to my friend Ashley. I begged her for tips because I wasn’t sure I could take much more of the pain. (I have birthed 4 babies. I’m not afraid of pain. Bring it on! This wasn’t a pain I wanted to deal with, however.) Ashley suggested getting orthodontic wax. BRILLIANT.
I checked Walmart, Target, and the local grocery stores. No orthodontic wax. Oh no.
Finally, I found it at one CVS in town! PRAISE. We got some ASAP and the relief was INSTANT! I have kept wax on the inside of my aligners every day! Get the minty kind, it’s awesome!
Days 4-7: SO HAPPY! I fell in love with my aligners! No pain and I actually enjoyed them!
So! Biggest tip from week 1: Get orthodontic wax before you put your aligners in for the first time! You’ll want it!
Good things from Week 1:
–My teeth were straighter after 24 hours. No joke. It was miraculous! By the end of Week 1, my confident smile was back! I am SO HAPPY I did Smile Direct Club!!!
–It wasn’t a pain to remove the aligners to eat & drink. You can drink water while wearing them, but I prefer to pop them out really quick- even before drinking water!
–You have to brush & floss your teeth after you eat & drink and before you put your aligners back in. My teeth are the cleanest they’ve ever been, haha!!

I’ve thought about a “refresh” since my teeth have shifted since high school too. I think live video has made me notice it more! We have 2 kids that need braces this year, so we will see!
Yes! I felt the same way- and I totally noticed it in videos and pictures! Drove me crazy, but affected my confidence too!
