Mulan Family Fun Night!
Hey y’all!
We LOVE movies at the Witt house! One perk of homeschooling is that we usually go see new movies at the theater the first morning they are released!
We were so excited to see the live action Mulan!
But…covid.
So! I thought it would be fun to take the same $ we would spend at the theater & surprise my kids with a fun family fun night!
Disney released Mulan on Disney+ and even though it’s a whopping $29.99 to watch it…that’s still cheaper than my family watching it at the movie theater!
I had two ideas for our family fun night food:
1. Order take out! Always a great option & if you’re around Roanoke, VA please go see Ou & Bonnie at Thai Oudone Valley Grill! They scratch make Asian food from all over Asia! Chinese, Laos & Thai are some of our family favorites! Their pineapple fried rice is UHHMAZING! They’re good people & we love supporting their business! They’re like family to us!
2. Make my own food! I went with this option because I knew it would be fun!
Here are my recipes:
Egg Drop Soup
1 carton chicken broth (32oz)
2 teaspoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons light soy sauce or Bragg’s coconut liquid aminos
4 eggs
1/4 teaspoon xanthan gum, divided
Chopped green onion for garnish
Crispy wontons
Directions:
1. Heat chicken broth, 1/8 teaspoon xanthan gum, sesame oil & soy sauce at medium high heat in a saucepan. Heat until it’s a slow boil.
2. Scramble eggs with the remaining 1/8 teaspoon xanthan gum & drop (pour from about 12 inches above the broth). Gently stir for 1-2 minutes or until egg is cooked.
Top with crispy wontons and green onions. Enjoy!
Super easy stir fry! Add the veggies you want + a little extra virgin olive oil + light soy sauce or Bragg’s Coconut Liquid Aminos then cook!
My stir fry veggies:
Zucchini
Red cabbage
Red pepper
Onion
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Carrots
We eat our stir fry with chicken!
For my husband’s DNA : he eats 1/2 cup rice with his!For my DNA 🧬 : I eat cauliflower rice with mine!

Air Fryer Crab Wontons
Ingredients:
1 8oz block of cream cheese, softened
1 8oz package of imitation crab meat
Wonton wrappers
1 egg, Uncooked & scrambled
Coconut oil spray
To serve: Sweet Chili Sauce + Green onions
Directions:-Preheat your air fryer to 350•. -Combine cream cheese and imitation crab meat. -put a heaping tablespoon of crab mixture in the middle of the wonton. -use the egg to paint the edges of the wonton wrapper. Pinch the corners together to seal the crab mixture inside. – once you have finished making your Crab wontons, lay them in your air fryer. Do not let them touch each other! Spray each wonton lightly with coconut oil spray. – cook at 350• for 4 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.
To serve:I poured about 1/2 a cup of sweet chili sauce on a plate and topped with chopped green onion. I laid the crab wontons on top of the sauce & onions & served that way!
InstantPot Steamed Jasmine Rice
3 cups Jasmine Rice + 3 cups water
Directions:-Add rice & water to the instant pot. Make sure to push down all of the rice so it is completely covered with water! You don’t want crispy rice 🤣
-Cook on high pressure for 6 minutes. Let it naturally release for 10 minutes & then manually release steam. Fluff with a fork & serve!
I also thought decorating was a must for our family fun night! I got Chinese New Year decorations off amazon! You can find them here!
I also got a Chinese tea set, Chinese soup spoons (let’s be real, they are the best!), Jasmine tea & chopsticks!
We ate great food, watched Mulan- which was a little scary but we loved it! And most of all, we made a fun memory as a family!
This Covid stuff might make life a little weird (or a lot weird!) but I want my kids to remember the way we made memories together as a family & had so much fun!
Let me know if you try these recipes or if you have a family fun night of your own!
Be blessed! Rachel
