Hey ya’ll! Christmas is right around the corner! I love pulling out Christmas decorations and ornaments my kids made in preschool and kindergarten and looking at how much they’ve grown over the years. Their little handprints melt me every time! I loveeeeeeee handprint/footprint crafts…and I love Christmas…so this craft is one of my favorite things!
When I was a teacher, I made a Christmas carol book filled with my student’s favorite Christmas carols and their sweet little handprints and footprints. I had a family tell me recently that they put their Christmas carol book out every Christmas…and their daughter is 16 now! Haha! I taught her 11 years ago!
I realized this was something I could do with my own kiddos, and this year we made it happen! Carson (my 4 year old!) enjoyed painting his hands and feet the most, but my other three kids helped too!
If you’d like to make one with your family, here is our example!
My 4 year old had so much fun helping me! I love his sweet hands! He did everything on this page- including the glitter! We painted glue on the snowflake and then sprinkled glitter on top!
IDEA: When I was a teacher, I had my students practice letter sounds and letter identification in the Christmas Carol lyrics. I plan to do that with our book too! I will have my kids use expo markers- they’ll wipe right off! You could also have your kids identify parts of speech, digraphs, capital letters, contractions, etc!
My sweet baby boy did this one! It was tricky painting a 10 month old’s hands, but his big big brother helped & it was fun!
TIP: If you don’t have washable glue, add a drop of blue dawn dish soap to your paint! BOOM! Now it’s washable! 🙂
Rudolph was a big favorite in this project! My 4 year old loved painting this one! Enjoy the extra giggles when you paint your kid’s feet!
I told Carson he could paint as many stars as he wanted for this one! He had fun making thumb and pointer fingerprints!
My oldest son wanted to do this one! I painted his foot, but he did the rest on his own! Great job Deacon!
I love his big foot! Haha! They were once so small…why does time fly so fast? He’s 10 years old & I’m holding on to every second. I am so thankful God made me his mama!
We met Santa Claus at Bass Pro Shops last week & I knew I wanted to save this picture forever! I laminated every page on my own…say wah? I got a laminator and the sheets to go with it off amazon. You can find them here: Scotch Laminator and Laminating Sheets.
I used a heavy duty laminator when I was teaching, and found that this one was wayyyyy easier to use! I literally put the paper in between the sheet and slid it through the laminator! I’m excited to keep their keepsakes forever now! And they weren’t expensive!
Just so you know what the whole thing looks like- I added a back cover page too! Each page is 2 sheets of construction paper, glued together with a glue stick. I put the lyrics on one side and the corresponding hand/foot print on the other. That way we can read and look at the picture at the same time! So fun!
How I bound the book: my husband took it to the UPS Store and they charged him $2 to bind it! Not expensive at all!
I hope you get to make a Christmas Carol book for your family this year! I will probably make a new one every year and that way we can look back on their sweet handprints as they change and grow over the years!
Have a wonderful Christmas!
Rachel
